Building Performing Teams

The Evolv Leader: Shifting from Manager to Multiplier

This immersive course is designed for managers ready to move beyond delegation and become true Team Architects, leaders who design systems and cultures where teams self-organize, operate with autonomy, and consistently achieve breakthrough performance. We focus on the psychological and structural foundations necessary to convert a group of individuals into a unified, high-impact team.

You will gain the advanced tools and insights required to maximize collective performance by fostering psychological safety, leveraging individual strengths, and proactively managing the team's development lifecycle.

Course Modules: The Pillars of Team Performance

1. Team Dynamics and the Psychological Foundation

  • Beyond Tuckman: Understanding the modern, non-linear stages of team formation and the critical role of feedback loops in driving progression.
  • The Trust Equation: Building radical candor and psychological safety—the non-negotiable foundations for risk-taking, vulnerability, and learning.
  • Team Operating Agreements: Defining explicit expectations around communication, conflict resolution, and decision-making to eliminate ambiguity and build autonomy.
  • The Manager as Shield: Strategies for protecting the team from organizational noise to maintain focus and well-being.

2. Maximizing Talent: The Role of Team Chemistry

  • Individual Strengths Mapping: Utilizing tools (e.g., Belbin, CliftonStrengths) to identify and strategically deploy individual talents rather than focusing on closing gaps.
  • Decoding Team Roles: Understanding the contributions of various functional, strategic, and relational roles and how to manage the tensions inherent in a diverse team.
  • The Multiplier Mindset: Shifting from being the expert who provides answers to the coach who asks the right questions, unlocking full team potential.
  • Flow and Focus: Designing workflows and environments that promote deep work, collective problem-solving, and a sense of shared accomplishment.

3. The Autonomy-Influence Feedback Cycle

  • Intrinsic Motivation Drivers: Implementing structures (Autonomy, Mastery, Purpose) to fuel sustained individual and team motivation.
  • Coaching for Growth: Developing high-impact 1:1 conversations focused on future potential and capability building, not just reporting on past tasks.
  • Gaining Influence through Empowerment: Learning to lead by clear communication of 'Why' and 'What,' then stepping back to allow the team to own the 'How.'
  • Proactive Development Planning: Using a structured team development model (e.g., high-performing team scorecards) to audit and accelerate team maturity and results.
